UNDER WHICH ACT?
BRICKW ORKERS’ AWARD. CLAIM FOR PAST OVERTIME. ABOUT £SOOO INVOLVED. (by Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. In the Arbitration Court award for brickworkers, etc., delivered by His Honour, Mr Justice Blair, the week’s . work was fixed at 48 hours per week on an interpretation of the Factories' Act, 1921-22. This has prompted the brick, tile, pottery and clay workers in the industrial district to consider steps to recover overtime worked and not paid for during the past five years. A conservative estimate is stated to fix the total involved in the vicinity of £SOOO. It is recalled that His Honour, Mr Justice Fraser, in 1923 and 1925, refused to recognise the Factories Act as relating to the brick works industry. The Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin unionists have been communicated with, with a view to concerted action.
