PEACE CUP .TEAMS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —At the annual meeting of the i Hamilton Rugby Union Mr N. Hamilton ; was elected to the position of selector. : The duty of a selector is to pick what in his expert and honest judgment is the best fifteen players to represent th union, and in this particular season to select a team capable of winning back the coveted Peace Cup. The wisdom of the appointment of Mr Hamilton has been demonstrated by results. The representatives as selected by him have regained the Peace Cup, have sucessfully defended it, besides winning the only other match played. All selectors are targets for criticism, but are ‘Prejudice’s’ remarks fair criticism? I will not enter into the question of the merits or otherwise of the players he has mentioned, as that is simply a question of opinion, and "Prejudice” may be a better judge of a footballer than either Mr Hamilton or myself; but I certainly do take exception to his later remarks, which are not only unfair but most uncalled for and in very bad taste. “Prejudice” says he is an admirer of a clean, gentlemanly footballer, and he quotes an example; but goes on to say that to gain representative honours he must either “mix It” or wear a blue and black jersey. I would like to ask “Prejudice” if he ■thinks it impossible to get a gentlemanly player from the ranks of those who wear blue and black jerseys or whether the gentlemanly players are only found wearing some other particular colours. Does “Prejudice” really mean that the fifteen players selected have all earned their places by their' ability to “mix it.” It reads so, but perhaps not intended, as all tnose players selected have not played in blue and black. I would like to know the colours “Prejudice” likes best. Personally I prefer white. —I am, etc., FRED JONES. Hamilton, Aug. 29.
