SCHOOL CARNIVAL.

HAMILTON WEST. SUM OF £245 RAISED. INFANTS HEAD THE LIST. The children’s carnival organised by the Hamilton West School Parents’ Association concluded on Saturday night. The final count revealed a return which was more than gratifying to the promoters and will enable many improvements to be carried out in and around the school. A total of £245 8s was raised, and this will be subsidised by the Education Board. There was a large attendance ot parents and convenors in the Haeremai Tearooms on Saturday night, when the votes were counted. In announcing the result Mr A. M. Bisley said that the amount raised had exceeded all expectations, and the great success of the carnival was indeed gratifying to all those who had worked so hard in 01ganising the many functions and entertainments in connection with it. The headmaster, Mr Henderson, thanked the Parents’ Association for organising the carnival, and the convenors for the time and work they had devoted to it. Mrs Kent-Johnston, president of the Hamilton West School Parents’ Association, said that the members of the Association were more than surprised at the excellent result of the carnival. When the scheme was first mooted it was thought that it would he difficult to raise £SO. With the Education Board subsidy the sum raised would reach nearly .£SOO, which would do a tremendous amount of good in the school. A telegram had been received from Mr J. A. Young, M.P., wishing the carnival every success. Mrs KentJohnston thanked the parents, teachers, and others who had helped, and called for cheers for the staff of the school. The Crowning Ceremony.

The infant King and Queen will be crowned in the 1 Theatre Royal on Monday, August 19. The proceedings will follow on the usual lines of such functions, and will include ceremonial addresses. The infant Royalty will be attended by Noton Wheeler, Austin Uisley, Mavis Dunstan and Ailsa Woolven. * The other class Kings and Queens and their attendants come in the following order: — The Class Representatives. Standard I. —King, Bryan Maguire; attendants, lan Andrews and Jack McKinlay. Queen, Wilma Butson; attendants, Nancy Davis and Elsa Gilbert.

Standard V.—King, James Deane; attendants, Geoff. Fraser and Billy Luxford. Queen, Joan Clephane; attendants, Itona Louden and Jean Mason.

Standard ll.—King, George Waddell; attendants, Billy Gifford and Jack Barrie. Queen, Alison Gower; attendants, Thelma Shepherd and Doreen Bishop.
