OVER EXUBERANT.
THREW INKWELL AT BARMAN. EXCITABLE WHEN DRUNK. When Joseph John Blennerhassett, lakes a few drinks, he loses his head, and is not quite responsible for bis actions. Last Saturday evening ■he entered the Commercial Hotel and when refused drink he picked up an inkwell and hurled it at the attendant’s head. Fortunately his aim was not 100 steady and the missle missed its mark, otherwise it might have inflicted severe damage. Later, in the street, Blennerhassett became somewhat violent, and finally he was taken in hand by the police.
To-day he pleaded guilty to assault, and disorderly behaviour. Two witnesses, one his employer and another, a confrere in the expeditionary force, gave evidence on accused's behalf, declaring him, when sober, to be a quiet, obliging and decent fellow, but to be excitable when drunk.
Mr W. J. King, on accused's behalf, suggested to Messrs B. C. Lowry and J. H. Gittos, J.’sP., that accused should be prohibited in lieu of any other penalty. He felt sure if this treatment w-ere accorded him, it w-ould be the best thing in defendant’s own and the public interest.
Accused’s over-exuberance cost him £2 on one charge. He was convicted and discharged on the other, conditional upon him taking out a prohibition order.
