The Minister of Trade and Customs, Mr Gutlett, made a statement that the Federal Government would stand or fall by Its decision to abolish the Arbitration Court, whose awards were flagrantly flouted by sections of the community. He added: “We must have a great efficiency drive from top to bottom to escape one of the worst depressions Australia has known. I would like to see the return of forty-eight hours weekly and the establishment of piecework.”
