Dr. T. C. Gray, of Wellington, is at the Empire Hotel.

Mr E. P. Cowles, of Hamilton, has been visiting Ilawera.

Mr W. Seccombe, of CoiT Harbour, New South Wales, is at the Empire Hotel.

Sir Arthur George Fletcher, Colonial Secretary of Ceylon, has been appointed Governor of Fiji, in succession to Sir Eyre Hutson.

Mr. 0. V. Lattimore is gazetted deputy-Regislrar of marriages, births and deaths at Morrinsville, and Mr. T. Keogh at Mercer.

Dr. P. Marshall, secretary of the New Zealand Institute, is the Dominion’s representative at the Pacillc Science Conference now in session at Wettevreden (Java). -

Rev. D. Calder, 8.A., general secretary for the British and Foreign Bible Society, is in Hamilton. He will speak at the Baptist Church to-morrow morning and in the Cathedral at evensong. Messrs. B. Chapman (Morrinsville) and T. W. Thompson (Hamilton) who acted as delegates from the Waikato , m ion to the annual conference of trio New Zealand Rugby Union, returned from Wellington this morning. The Rev. R. W. Alexander, vicar of the East Taranaki parish, has resigned his position and will leave at the end of the month to tour the southern States of America, after which, it is understood, he intends to proceed to England. Dr. George Crlle, who Is mentioned in the message concerning the Cleveland disaster, served for some time in France in a New Zealand field hospital, under Dr. Eugene O’Neill, Dunedin. He is the discoverer of the modern method of treating shock. The sixtieth anniversary of their marriage will be celebrated to-morrow by Mr and Mrs F. W. Court, of Oneh'unga. Mr Court was one of the pioneer drapers of Auckland, and virtually founder of two of Auckland’s most flourishing drapery firms. Mr D. C. Bates, who has been appointed to represent New Zealand at the conference of Empire meteorologists in London and the international Meteorological Conference at Copenhagen, will leave Wellington by the Tahiti next Tuesday.
