BARNARDO HOMES

PICNIC AT IVIORRINSVILLE

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The annual picnic for members o! the Morrinsvillc Branch of the Barnardo Homes was held at the residence of the president, Mrs George Howie, on Saturday. The day being beautifully fine and the plantations and terraces around Mr and Mrs Ilowic’: house ideal for such a gathering, the 50 children who attended had a glorious time. Games and races, prizes foi which were generously provided by the business people and others, kept the children busy and happy, nearly every child securing a prize- A bountiful afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the committee. The following were among the prize-winners:—Girls over 8' years, Ettie Thompson; girls under 8 years, June Howie; boys over 8 years, Elston Craig; boys under 8 years, Michael Slringfield; girls’ sack race, Bettie Jackson 1, Zana Ford 2; boys’ sack race, Graham Howie 1, G. Strand 2; small girls’ race, Elain and June Howie dead heat 1, Zane Willis 2; relay race, girls v. boys, won by girls. The committee was able to report that the year had been a very satisfactory one so far. The Morrinsvillc branch had contributed over £SO to the funds of the homes, and hopes to augment the sum by holding a sale of produce on the last day of the month. The children also have taken a keen interest in the work of collecting funds and getting new members. The Morrinsvillc ladies are to be | congratulated in the success of their efforts to help such a worthy cause.
