MILITARY TRAINING.

NEW SEASON STARTING. FIRST CAMP ON SATURDAY. FIXTURES AT HOPU HOPU. Next Saturday will see the initiation of another military year. Although nominally the Defence Departments new year commences in June, following the territorial postings and transfers, in the eyes of thousands of young men between the ages of 16 and 21, the birth of the new year will occur on Saturday, when the training camps extending over several months will be inaugurated. Hopu Hopu Gamp, between Ngaruawahia and Taupiri, will again be the chief centre of activities for the North Island, and on Saturday the Northern Depot of. the New Zealand Army Service Corps will pitch tents for a week's instruction. Most of the trainees will come from Auckland and environs, although there will be a fair percentage from provincial districts, including the Waikato. -The Northern Depot of the New Zealand Engineers 'will train at Hopu Hopu for ten days, from January 23, and will be followed by members of the Medical Corps. The Waikato Units. Various other units will be in occupation, the First Battalion, Waikato Regiment, .starting on February 20. The Waikato Mounted Rifles will not camp until April 23. From March 14 to May 18, the sundry artillery units will take turns in camp at Rotorua. Vastly improved facilities will be offered territorials at Hopu Hopu Camp this year. Permanent buildings have been erected, the accommodation greatly enlarged, and the conveniences improved and extended.
