AN ILLEGAL PASTIME.
. N PAKAPOO PLAYERS RAIDED. SOME HEAVY FINES IMPOSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Following four raids carried out simultaneously on Chinese premises in Taranaki Street, a number of Chinese and Europeans were to-day charged with offences arising out of playing pakapoo. Two Chinese who were fined three months ago, and who had straight away re-opened the gambling business were each fined £4O, or in default three months ’lmprisonment. Two others were fined £2O each, in default six weeks.
Various people who were found on the premises were fined in sums varying in the region of £2 and £3.
