WELLINGTON CENTRE. ' RECORD NOT RECOGNISED. (By Telegraph.^—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Wellington centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association the fifty yards centre championship was allotted to the Wellington Club. It was reported that with regard to the performance on Saturday of W. Cameron in swimming the 100yds championship in 56 4-5 seconds, threefifths of a second better than the existing New Zealand record for the distance, it is unfortunate that the centre could not recommend its recognition, as the starting board was too high, PROGRAMME AT TE AROHA. The Te Aroha Amateur Swimming Club held its opening night on Monday. Messrs F. Burns and F. Gaw acted as starters, and Messrs J. O’Connell and /Nicholas as judges. Following were the results:— Combine Balloon Race. —First heat, C. Wybom; second heat, C. Hines; final, C. Wybom. Corfu Dive.—C. Hines i, S. Toms 2. . Boys’ Candle Race.—S. Toms 1, Carruthers 2. Plunge Dive.—F. Bush 1. Relay Race.—-A team: Bush, Wyborn, Hines and Bailey. B team: Gibbs, Edmonds,'Geldert and Nicholas. A team won the final. Musical Lifebuoy.—R. Gibbs 1. Neatest Header.—Hines, Gibbs and Geldert dived off, and the latter won. Relay Race. —Geldert, Wyborn, Gibbs and Edmonds, 1. Candle Race.—First heat: Nicholas 1, Gibbs 2. Second heat: Wybom i, Bailey 2. Final; Wybom 1, Gibbs 2. TE AROHA CLUB. The membership of the newlyformed Swimming Club at Te Aroha exceeds 80. Mr Trotman has been appointed secretary, in place of Mr W. Otto, who has resigned on account of leaving the district. The Tourist Department has offered to 'allow the club the exclusive use of the swimming baths, every Monday evening, -and the offer has been accepted.
