COMMONWEALTH LOAN

£8,000,000 AT 5 PER CENT. UNDERWRITTEN IN LONDON. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) LONDON, Jan. 15. A loan of £8,000,000 for the Commonwealth of Australia has been underwritten. It will be 5 per 'cent, stock issued at 98. The loan is redeemable in 1975, or at the option of the borrower, at any time after 1945. This is the fifth issue of 1945-75 stock made by the Commonwealth, the previous loans having been as follows: —July, 1927, £7,000,000 at 98 (of which 90 per cent, was left with the underwriters) ; November, 1927, £7,000,000 at 97J (75 per cent, left with underwriters) ; March, 1928, £8,000,000 at 98 (84 per cent, left with underwriters) ; July, £7,000,000 at 98 (87 per cent, left with underwriters).

The Commonwealth loan was favourably received on the Stock Exchange. It will yield, allowing for redemption, 102 to 103 per cent. The prospectus, which will be advertised to-morrow, says the loan is issued by the Commonwealth on behalf of itself and states that the list closes on January 18.
