The Right Han. J. G. Coates left Auckland for Wellington by train last evening.

The Right Rev. L. S. Kempthorne, Bishop in Polynesia, left Auckland for Suva by the Aorangi last evening.

Messrs T. M. Peters (Taumarunui) and J. R. Warnock (Auckland) are at the Commercial Hotel.

Mr H. H. Sterling, general manager of railways, will return to Wellington from the South to-morrow morning.

Mr B. Penlington, headmaster of the Kalapoi school, has been visiting Cambridge.

Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson, of Wellington, • is relieving Detective J. White, at Hamilton, while the latter is on leave.

Sir Harry Lauder left Auckland for Rotorua yesterday. He _ will spend some time trout Ashing in the Rotorua and Taupo districts. Mr Harry Tuohy, station master at Morrinsville, who had been spending his leave at Hastings, left on his return north on Monday.

Messrs J. Innes, A. E. Shaw, E. Porter (Wellington), C. Whiteloca (Havelock North), J. Burton and S. Burgess v (New Plymouth) are at the Hamilton Hotel.

Mr Frank Hutchens, of the professional staff of the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music, is spending a few days at Mt. Lgmont before visiting New Plymouth.

Mr F. T. Board, for many years on the staff of the Christchurch Press, and now a resident of Nelson, with his son, Mr B. A'. Board, is spending a holiday in llamlton.

On the eve of leaving Te Aroha Mr Walton Otto was .presented with a shaving outfit by St. Mark's Boys’ Club, for which he had acted as secretary for a considerable time.

The gold medal of the Royal Astronomical Society lias been awarded to Professor Ejnar Razsprung, of Leiden Observatory, Holland, for his pioneering work in stellar astronomy.

It is stated on reliable authority in Tokyo that Mr Iycmasa Tokugawa will he nominated as Minister to Canada.

Mr Frank Penn has been appointed to represent the Cambridge Methodist circuit at the forthcoming conference at Auckland on February 21. Mr E. J. Easter was appointed substitute representative.

Mf H. D. Prichard, of Cambridge, who was recently appointed an inspector under the Education Department for the Otago district, has returned to Cambridge,,, after spending portion of his holidays at Takapuna. Mr Prichard will leave in a few days for Dunedin, in order lo take up Ins new duties.

Major Alfred Greene, M.C., formerly of Hamilton and now resident secretary of the Salvation Army Immigration Department, will sail from Auckland by the Tamaroa for Southampton on Saturday. During the Major's absence Major W. G. Middlcmiss, also formerly of Hamilton, will take ovei the management of the department.
