THE DOMAIN BOARD.
TENNIS CLUB’S LEASE. REFERENCE TO SUNDAY PLAY. RUBBISH AT THE LAKE. The Hamilton Domain Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr W. H. Paul, presiding. Others present were: Messrs J. R. Fow, R. C. Fowler and G. Boyes (secretary) and Dr. H. Douglas. ■ The secretary of the Hamilton Lawn Tennis Club (Mr A. E. McCracken) wrote acknowledging receipt of the Board's letter referring to the finalising of the lease and making reference to Sunday play on the Bosstrevor Street courts. At a meeting of the Tennis Club executive held on December 13 a sub-committee consisting of Jiessrs D. Seymour, W. J. King and himself was appointed to meet members of the Domain Board to finalise the lease. In the meantime instructions had been given the club secretary to post a notice requesting members to refrain from Sunday play. Owing to the holidays the meeting with the Board had been delayed.
The secretary reported that arrangements had been made for a preliminary meeting between members of the Board and the Tennis Club executive this morning. The club had a draft lease prepared with suggestions pencilled in. It was decided that the Board’s subcommittee —Messrs D. Hay, J. McKinnon, Fow and Paul and Dr. Douglas—meet the Tennis Club representatives to-day.
Work During Holidays. The foreman reported that work during the month had been confined solely to ground maintenance in order to make the reserves presentable for the holiday season. With this object in view the staff were* employed cutting the grass and cleaning the paths. The major portion, and perhaps the most. important part of the Lake Reserve, namely, from the main entrance drive to the Birch Plantation, was mown and the grass between trees in the plantation was cut. "At this period of the year the bathing sheds at the Lake require daily attention,” added the foreman. “The accumulation of rubbish left by the visitors is also a matter that needs attention daily, especially on Monday mornings, when sacks of paper, tins, etc., have to be collected to make the reserve neat and tidy. The playing fields at Scddon and Steele Parks have been cut regularly each week." The secretary reported that the Board's credit at the bank was £354 18s lid. Messrs Fowler, McKinnon and Paul were appointed a committee to deal with the question of labour.
