if: ■ U: Coming Bazaar. y!; An enthusiastic and well-attended , public meeting, convened by the Hinu- ! "f,era Hall Committee, was held for the '■'purpose of making arrangements for •; holding a bazaar about the end- of ■» February, in 'order to further reduce t > the debt on the hall. S!. The following officers were elected . for the various stalls, with power to Vdd to their number: —Ladies’ convener, Mrs J. Hayes, assisted by Mrs J;A. E. Howe; men’s convener, Mr D. K. '"Mclsaac, with Mr C. Brown as secre3<tary; sweets stall, Mrs A. E. Rowe and *>Miss Hermann; produce stall, Mrs N. J’- Griffiths; cake Stall, Mrs H. Conder 1 and Mrs Menzies; fancy goods, Mrs B. Vyheelcr; refreshments, Mesdames B. I'iTisch and R. Swan; side-shows, Mr '’James Beeby. In addition, it was decided to have ";a queen to represent each stall, for * ‘which the following were selected: Muriel Scelly, Florence Settle, *-Merle Hayes and Thoral Wheeler for *!sweets, produce, cakes, and fancy s‘goods stalls respectively. All those present were unanimous ;; about having a queen carnival in con- % junction with the bazaar, and the *; queens are already busy seeking votes, '“’and various functions are being arranged by the committees for their -■respective queens. The chairman, Mr D. K. Mclsaac, in it closing the meeting, thanked those *; present for the loyal support extended to the Hall Committee during the .e past year, and urged them to make a "' special endeavour to influence as many -'as possible to attend the next meeting 2 -and lend a helping hand. / *» New Year’s Eve Dance. SI The New Year’s Eve dance organised by the Hallt Committee seems to Slhav'e become an established and J]eagerly-anticipated function. , Each “.year increases its popularity, and last 4 Monday night saw a record attendance for any dance that has ever been 5 -held in the Hinnera Hall. The many 2; town visitors spending holidays with country friends considerably augmented the attendance, and the fact that ; : *«between sixty and seventy cars were fi parked outside the hall proved how i ( ihc dance was patronised by people 3 .from all parts of the country. .^rt«<»gj rea^nei ; g an d greenery, gay paper ; bats ribbons, balloons and confetti added quite a- carnival touch, to the
scene. Music was supplied by Pennell’s orchestra, extras being played by Mrs Malligan and Miss Kathleen Darragh. When the clock sounded the final moment of the old year, hands were •joined during the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Cheers welcomed in the new year, and then the merriment j continued.
