BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.
AN EXTRAORDINARY SCENE. RUSH FOR BARGAINS. -* . POWER OF ADVERTISING. An extraordinary scene was witnessed in Hamilton yesterday, which serves to demonstrate the value of newspaper advertising. It also proves that a big public is ever present and ready to listen sympathetically to any attractive advertising appeal , put through the newspaper which, after all, is the most forceful of all advertising mediums. In the issue of the Waikato Times on Monday, Messrs Hetheringtons inserted a full-page advertisement setting out in attractive terms their special bargain offerings. On Tuesdaymorning before the doors opened crowds had assembled outside and as the morning proceeded the crush became so dense that it was found necessary to close the doors and to keep, them closed throughout the remainder of the day. Special door attendants were engaged to admit buyers * aly as those who had bought; left with their purchases. The scene inside the store was ex-* traordinary. The management apparently had not contemplated such an onslaught on the bargains and whileadditional staff had been engaged, it was quite unable to cope with the crowd. It was only after closing the doors that order began to evolve out of chaos. In certain country districts remote from Hamilton, special parties were organised to bring people to the sale. Messrs Hetheringtons’ sale will be carried on day by day till January 3i«
