returns for year. INCREASE IN PLAINTS. A busy year was experienced by the' Ilamiton Magistrate Court officials. The Hamilton Court district is one of the largest, for volume of business, in the Dominion, and is probably the worst off lor facilities. The annual returns show that during the year £41,538 Is 6d was sued for, compared with £36,026 7s 4d last year. Of the cases which came to trial, the total amount claimed was £23,611 11s 2d, which is a decrease on last year’s figures, which were £26,967 15s sd. Of the amounts claimed, £21,993 0s 3d was recorded this year, compared with £24,991 17s *d in 1927. During the year the plaints entered totalled 2133. There were 209 distress warrants issued and 424 judgment summonses made. There were also 4 3 warrants of committal. Last year the plaints entered numbered 2003, the distress warrants made 226, judgment summonses issued 550, and warrants of committal made 48. The fines collected for the year amounted to £594 17s 4d, which was well below the amount in the previous year, £823 lGs Od. The criminal fees totalled £275 0s Gd, against £341 8s in 1927.
