Three Indian constables and six strikers were killed in a clash between the police and the cotton-mill strikers. An infuriated mob of thousands of per&ouo, uiuucd uy Labour leaders, marched through the streets. They attacked a small picket of European and Indian police, who, being outnumbered, were compelled to fire. The police were overwhelmed and three of them were beaten to death. Thirty others of the force were seriously injured. The citizens are panic-stricken. The streets are now being patrolled by armed police. All the mills have been closed.
