CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MEETING AT MORRINSVILLE. THE RULES ALTERED. At the monthly meeting of the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce the president, Mr J. H. Wyatt, presided Mr McGregor, in accordance with his notice, moved that the rules of the chamber be altered to permit of honorary members. The motion was carried, and after considerable discussion in committee it was decided, on the motion of Mr McGregor, seconded by Mr Martin, that the Mayor (Mr W. McPherson), the president of the Morrinsville branch of the Farmers’ Union (Mr J. M. Allen) and the member for the district (Mr F Lye, M.P.), be elected honorary members. It was agreed that not more than five other honorary members be elected annually. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce wrote that it was proposed to make the December issue of the Chamber s journal a special souvenir number in connection with the recent Commerce train. They proposed presenting these to country friends, and asked what number of copies the chamber would like. The offer was accepted with

thanks. The manager of the Railway Department wrote stating the reasons foi ihe chamber’s request to have the late tiain from Frankton to Thames speeded up and that some alteration might be made in the future. In reply to the chamber's request the Railway Department has agreed to provide a light in the centre of the overhead bridge at the Morrinsville station for the convenience of travellers arriving or departing by the late train. Mr G. F. Oates brought up the matter of the piggeries close to the town on the Rotorua railway line. He had heard many complaints from residents about the stench. —Mr Martin said lie would undertake to bring the matter before the Borough Council. The following new members were elected: —Messrs A. J. Skinner, D. HWilson and J. L. Faulkner. The date of next meeting was fixed for the second Thursday in February. Mr C. M. Cummer referred to the high rates charged in Morrinsville for fire insurance. There had never been a reduction despite the fact that water had been installed and an efficient lire brigade existed. He thought the Borough Council should have tacldcd the matter. lie moved that the chamber write to the Association asking for a reduction, and also to the Borough Council asking for support.

After considerable discussion the drafting of a letter was left in the hands of the secretary and Messrs McGregor and Oates.
