THEATRE ROYAL. IT’TSSBH Helen Hunt Jackson’s story, “ Ramona,” which comes to the Theatre Royal to-night, is regarded as one. of the present day American classics. When Mrs Jackson decided to write “ Ramona ” she had a deliberate purpose and as high an aim as that associated in the writing of ” Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” She did not realise that her story would prove one of America’s most interesting romances. “ Ramona ” would never have reached a 94th printing had it not possessed unusual literary qualities, for public interest in the Indian - question alone could never have kept the book alive. As it is, “ Ramona ” is regarded as one of the American classics. To-day the book enjoys its largest sale and now comes the film that will give it perpetual life on .the silver sheet. Inspiration Pictures and Edwin Carewo produced the story with Dolores Del Rio in the star and title role. It is regarded as one of the important pictures of the year and a vehicle entirely suited to the star’s histrionic talents. STRAND AND FRANKTON THEATRES Lew Cody and Ailecn Pringle appear to-night in “ Wickedness Preferred." The new picture is a spicy burlesque of cave-man love—the actual application of that torrid theory—and what happens in the cave when ” dreams ” have come true for two runaway romanticists should not be missed by blonde or brunette, male or lie-male. The story revolves around the author of highly coloured island stories—a man who depends on his wife like a babe in all but romance—and his cave-man reputation causes a furore among the ladies second only to the sensation created by his actual arrival at a summer resort hotel, where a particularly romantic young wife mercilessly vamps him. Gossip and the strenuous objections of the husband lead to complications. But the guilty couple decide to sail to a neighbouring isle —and into a typhoon of unforseen troubles. Cave-life domesticity, its tribulations and thrills make a unique movie, with a laugh and a scream in every foot. The picture is supported by another big comedy, produced by the famous laugh-makers Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton. When these two get together they provide exquisite moments of fun. THE DANDY DOZEN. The box plan is open for the performance of the Dandy Dozen in the Theatre Royal on Thursday. Ticket holders should note the change from the Town Hall, which has been forced by the heavy purchase of tickets by the great number of people who wish to see and hear this wonderful troupe. The proceeds are in aid of the Waikato Children’s Camp League. The Working Men’s Orchestra will assist with overtures,
