BOYS DROWNED.
WHILE BATHING IN RIVER. ' ATTEMPT AT RESCUE FAILS. , (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.) !•■ PALMERSTON N„ Monday. A drowning fatality occurred at Tangimoana, at the mouth of the Rangivtikei River, yesterday, the victims being Russell Ernest Burgess, aged 14, and Robert Parker, aged 19, sons of Rongotca farmers. Both .were swimming in the river when Burgess got into difficulties. Parker went to his assistance, but sank on reaching him. 1 Another man, named Zuppicich, ‘pluckily plunged in fully clothed. He succeeded in getting hold of one lad, but had to disengage himself. He then made a second fruitless attempt. \v. The bodies were recovered later. MAN DROWNED. WOULD-BE RESCUER ROBBED. NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday. As the result of a boating accident at Fitzroy Beach, yesterday afternoon, a married man, Mr Percy Samuel Haskell, aged 42, employed at the New Zealand Fertiliser Company’s works, ..lost his life. * s -? There were a lot of people in the vicinity when the accident occurred, and one young man who left his coat to render assistance had a wallet containing £0 or £7 stolen from his pocket in his absence.
