Two men fought about a betting transaction at, a hotel in the suburb of Waterloo last evening. Robert Pror phett, aged 30 (formerly an alderman of Waterloo), attempted to separate the combatants, when somebody fired a revolver and shot Prophet, critically injuring him and he died to-day. The police arrested a young man who was seen to walk out of the hotel with a revolver in one hand. Thomas Garvey, aged 20, has been charged with murder.
