Popplewell (New South Wales) won with a score of 295 for 72 holes. He defeated Rufus Stewart (South Australia) by one stroke. In each of the four rounds Popplewell’s scores did not vary by more than two strokes. His rounds were:. 74, 73,- 73, 75. Stewart’s scores were: 78, 70, 75, 73. Sinclair took 300, Bolger 301, Nettlefold 302, Spence 304. Popplewell holed out at one hole in one stroke, the first time this feat has been done in the open championship.
