DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

IN THE TARANAKI DISTRICT. VERY SATISFACTORY POSITION. A Taranaki paper says:— The last of the annual meetings ol dairy companies in South Taranaki for this year took place on Monday. Altogether, a very satisfactory position has been disclosed, pay-outs rang-, ing from about Is 7d to over Is 9Jd. j Practically all South Taranaki fac-j tories have settled the question qf the j disposal of their outputs and have de-j cided which firms shall handle their, butter and cheese for the coming sea-' son. In this connection, it is reported, there have been more changes than for many“years. The sight of several agents representing Home firms, waiting outside the offices of dairy companies to take their turns in addressing directors has been a familiar one in South Taranaki during the past month. The last of the past season’s produce should have arrived Home by nTnv, and recent cable reports are to the effect that very good prices have been realised on the hast few shipments of cheese. There have been no f.o.b. offers for butter and cheese for the past few weeks, buyers apparently being content to await further information concerning the likely production, but it is expected that offers will shortly he made to factories again. . . , The net returns anticipated by farmers for the past season have, owing to the very good prices ruling in the last few months of the season just past, exceeded their anticipations ana the present indications are that production in South Taranaki, for the first few months of the season, will exceed that, for the corresponding period of last year. \ large number of farmers are adopting the wise course of using some of their revenue from last year for fertilisers, and this, no doubt,* will increase considerably the retuins from their farms this .season. t The first ship to take this season s butler from South Taranaki is the Northumberland, and the first quota of cheese will be despatched toward* the end of the month.
