DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.
HOUSE DESTROYED. THEATRE DAMAGED. AUCKLAND, Monday. A spectacular fTre at Papatoctoe yesterday afternoon resulted in the complete destruction of a large residence of 13 rooms in Station Road and considerable damage to the Central Theatre, at present in course of erection. The house, which was owned and occupied by Mr R. Corbett, was a building of two storeys, separated by a space of about 20ft from the theatre, which is being built for Mr Corbett by Mr J. R. Simpson, of Green Lane. MOTOR GARAGE DAMAGED. AUCKLAND, Monday. Damage to the ' extent of about £IOOO was caused by a fire which bpoke out in the garage of Carter Brothers, Mount Eden Road, last night. It is believed the outbreak originated in some rubbish near a large heap of motor tyres valued at £7OO, and all these were destroyed.
