He wears a metal peg limb. He rode a mule to the hut at an altitude of 12,820 feet. Without sleep he started at 10 o'clock in the evening and reached the summit at 7 o'clock in the morning. He descended to the hut in six hours. His most" hazardous experience was a moonlight six hours' mule descent from the hut to Zermatt. Alpinists describe the feat as the greatest in the Matterliorn's history.
