ANOTHER ACCOUNT.
It HEENEY STARTS WELL, CHAMPION,. BUSTLED. BADLY SHAKEN IN THIRD ROUND WELLINGTON, Friday. The following details of the fight were obtained by re-broadcast:— The first round was good and the second was good also, the fight being full of 'interest. Ileeney landed a blow which slowed Tunney up. In tiie third round Tunney landed a hard right to Hecney’s head, and Heeney landed a hard left (o Tunney’s body, which shook the champion badly. Nearly Dropped. Tunney was nearly dropped by a hard right to the face. Heeney landed a left lo the body at the end of the round. In the fourth round Heeney drove a hard right to the face, and staggered Tunney. Tunney then landed a hard left. Heeney was now good at inflghting, and landed Tunney against the ropes. Heeney was the aggressor, and was going very strong at the end of the fourth round. In the fifth round Tunney landed three hard lefts, and had the advantage of his greater reach. In the seventh round Tunney landed a hard right to the heart, and Heeney returned a hard right to the body. This was followed by a succession of rights by both boxers, Tunney sidestepping. Ileeney left marks on the champion’s face with a hard left. In the eighth round Ileeney hit hard to the jaw. Tunney then closed Ilceney’s left eye. Something then appeared wrong with him. It did not appear lo be from a blow. Tunney set in strongly again, and hit Heeney twice hard on the face, and the challenger’s eye suffered as a consequence, and at the end it was completely closed. The Champion Staggered.
In the ninth round Heeney landed a hard right to the body and staggered Tunncv. Ileeney’s body did not look too well at the end of this round. He was decidedly groggy. Tunney was still leading on points. In the lentil round both fighters landed hard rights and lefts, Tunney outbox'ing Heeney. Tunney now landed three effective blows, pounding Ileeney on the body. Heeney was apparently knocked out by now, hut recovered very quickly. In the eleventh round Hecney’s seconds threw in the towel, and the light ended in Tunney’s favour.
