Heeney landed a right to the body and the New Zealander appeared slightly groggy as he missed with a left to the chin. Tunney shook Tom with a hard left to the jaw. Wearing Down Process. The champion was fighting a superb battle and wearing the challenger down. This was Tunney’s round. Heeney Wins the Seventh. In round seven they sparred for an opening. Tunney landed a right Lo the body, then two lefts to the bead. The champion dug a right glove deep into Heeney’s body and ileeney landed a sharp left to the head. Tunney jarred Torn with a left to the face. Tunney had the better of an exchange at close quarters and ileeney landed a left lo the body. They then clinched and Tunney placed a right to the body. Then in a furious exchange Ileency landed two blows to Tunney’s one, forcing the latter to retreat. Tunney placed a left to the face. The crowd cheered as Ileeney landed a hard left to the face. They were sparring at the bell. This was Ilcency’s round. Heeney’s Eye Closing. In the eighth round Tunney met Ileeney with a right to the body as the challenger bored in. Ileeney was blinking his left eye and was backing from the champion. Heeney wiped Iris eye with his glove, but was unable to clear it. He was unable to see out of the eye. This was the first lime Heeney backed away, which obviously was owing to his restricted sight. Tunney jarred Tom with a two-fisted attack on the face. Heeney had a vision of the champion then and landed a left ja±> to the face. Despite his eye, he stood toe to toe, exchanging punches. Tunney drove both fists to the head and held. Tunney landed two fists at the body and then a one-two punch to the head, followed by a straight left to the face. Heeney still bled from the nose. Tunney sent Heeney back on his heels with both hands to the body. They then exchanged punches to the head at long range. Tunney opened a deep gash over Heeney’s left eye and blood poured down. Ileeney, however, refused to stop boring in. Tunney jabbed the challenger with a left and right to the head. Heeney sent over a terrific right as they came out of a clinch. Tunney then scored with a straight left and the champion sent both fists to the body. It was Tunney’s round.*

Towards the close of the round the champion was having all the better of it. Heeney appeared greatly distressed. The fight was still Tunney’s. In the tenth Tunney sent a right, to the body. They then clinched. Tunney next scored with two rights lo the head and three rights to the face. Ilceney’s face was now a gorcy mess and his left eye was almost closed. Tom put a hard left to the body, the challenger spitting blood, hut lie never took backward steps. Tunney landed three left jabs to the body. Heeney then got in a left to the chin and a right lo ihe jaw. Ileeney rested his head on the champion’s shoulder and landed lightly to the body. Tunney drove a hard right to the stomach and then a series of hard lefts to the head, Ileency was now receiving a very bad battering, hut refused lo back. Tunnov [hen floored Toni with a right to the jaw as the hell sounded. The challenger’s seconds picked him up and half-carried him to his corner. The, hell apparently saved Heeney, whose seconds bent over him to bring him to. Heeney came out groggy for the 11th. Tunney staggered him with lefts and rights to the head and Heeney was in a very' bad way and almost ready to topple over. Just Before the Towel.

Tunney fought cautiously, driving both fists to the challenger’s head. A left to the jaw almost floored Heeney and a further left to the jaw knocked Tom’s mouthpiece out. Tunney put everything he had behind his punches. Ileeney was fighting blindly and landed a hard right to. the jaw. Tunney now staggered Ileeney with lefts and ■'rights to the head and with Heeney absolutely groggy, the referee stopped the bout and the seconds threw in the toweL , . „ .... The champion retains the title.
