SUICIDE BY HANGING.
FARM MANAGER’S DEATH. VERDICT AT INQUEST. TE AWAMUTU, Thursday. An inquest was held this afternoon into the death of Charles Dixon MeYinish, aged 37, who had been a farm manager at Te Rahu for the past six years. Evidence was given that deceased was dismissed on Monday. He returned to the whare and yesterday had dinner with a fellow worker, afterwards saying he wanted lo be alone for- a few hours, but his companion was to look him up in the evening. Two hours later Die companion looked in to the whare, and noL seeing McVinish on Lhc lied, went through to the kitchen, where he saw McVinish’s body hanging by a rope from a rafter. The body was cut down, but life appeared extinct, so the man informed neighbours, who telephoned for the Te Awamutu police and a doctor. Further evidence showed that McVinish had no relatives in the Dominion. lie had spoken of two brothers in Scotland. lie had intended seeking work and advertised for a job. A search revealed the fact that his only valuables were a 10-shillings note and a notebook. McVinish had never indicated his intention to end his life. The Coroner returned a verdict of suicide by hanging while in a depressed slate of mind. FOUND DEAD IN CELL. MADE ROPE OF BLANKETS. KOHUKOIIU, Thursday. An elderly man, Warren 11. Cox, was found hanging in the Rawene lock-up this morning. lie was arrested a fortnight ago at Mangamuka on a serious charge, and had been twice remanded. On going into the cell this morning the constable found deceased’s body hanging from the ceiling. He had torn a blanket into strips and made a rope, which had been passed through a ventilator. Deceased, who was single, was a native of Canada, and was a painter by occupation. ELDERLY FARMER’S SUICIDE. FOUND HANGING FROM TREE. NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. A farmer, Julius Albert Ludvic Kurth, aged G 3, was found hanging to a tree in the bush on his farm at Barrett Road yesterday afternoon. lie went out in the morning to grub furze, and was seen at work, but as he did not return to dinner search was made and his son-in-law found the body as described, life being extinct. Deceased had been in poor health, and had been attended by a doctor. He was a highly respected and useful sclller.
