LYCEUM CLUB.

SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY. MANY VISITORS ENTERTAINED. The Waikato Lyceum Club held its second birthday party last night m e club rooms, which were beautiful i decorated for the occasion with bowls of pink camelias and cherry blossom. A record number of members were present, the wives of the visiting clergy for Synod being the guests or honour for the evening. Mrs Hugh Douglas, the dub s president, received her guests in a charming frock of black georgette heavily embroidered in gold. The programme for the evening was opened by the National 'Anthem played by Miss N. Valder, and followed by: Trio, Miss Norah Valder (piano), Miss Isabel Leak (fiddle), Miss Helen Ilcywood (’cello); piano, Chopins “Waltz," Mrs Prentice; duct, “Flow Gently Deva,” Shubcrt’s “Summer Breezes," Mr F. Mason and Mr Outtrim with accompaniment by Mrs 11. Gilbert; song, “Carnival,” Mrs F. Bond, with accompaniment by Mrs McMullin; dramatic reading by Mrs Prenton, Mrs Bullock, Miss Madeley and Miss Wright; duet, “II Trovatore,” Mrs F. Bond, Mr K. Eade, accompanied by Mrs McMullin; songs, “Sometimes I feel so happy,” “My Doll Emily,” “Swinging,” Miss E. Bowie; songs, “Pale Moon,” “Dawn,” Mr K. Eade, accompanied by Mrs McMullin; recitation, “Gathering Peaches,” Miss Iris Andrew’s; quartette, Mrs F. Mason, Mrs Jones, Mr F. Mason, Mr Outtrim, accompanied by Mrs Gilbert. At the close of the programme Mrs Douglas thanked those who had done so much to make the programme the success it was. A gorgeously iced two-tier birthday cake, arranged among vases of lovely pink flowers was wheeled into the room by Airs Vere Chitty, while Mrs 11. T. Gillies presented the president with a beautiful posy of violets. A delicious supper w r as then served and the cake cut.

Mrs G. R. Barnett, on behalf of the visitors to Hamilton, thanked the club for its charming hospitality, and Airs Douglas proposed a vote of thanks for the members of the tea committee. After the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows" and “Auld Lang Syne” the party’ closed, everyone claiming it the jolliest and happiest of successes.
