PICTURESQUE SCENES.
IN HOUSE OF LORDS. There was a. picturesque, glittering ceremony in the House of Lords a few weeks ago, when H.R.H. Prince Henry took his seat for the first time as Duke of Gloucester, the title lately conferred upon him by the King. There was a stately procession, headed by the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod —whose name in ordinary life is Lieutenant-General Sir William Pulteney-Pulteny. The Duke of Norfolk and Lord Burburnholme followed, in crimson robes; then came Garter King of Arms, attired in heraldic splendor; Sir Henry Farnham Burke; and finally Prince Henry, wearing ducal robes, five-barred with ermine, The new Duke of Gloucester was introduced to the House by the Prince of Wales', who is also Duke of Lancaster, and the Duke of Sutherland. The oath of allegiance to Sovereign was administered. Then the procession circled the cross benches, returning to the front of the Throne, where one of the supporting chairs had been brought forward. The new' Duke thereupon seated himself, saluting the Lord Chancellor three times by raising his three-cornered hat.
