CATTLE FOODS.
BURDEN OF THE TARIFF.
APPEAL TO THE PREMIER
(By Telegraph.—Special to Times.) MORRINSVILLE, Monday. A request that the tariff on stock foods should be abolished was made by Mr Alexander Ross of Mangatcparu to the Premier,’Mr Coates, this afternoon. Mr Ross pointed out that if the tariff wore removed it would enable late calvers to be milked over the winter and thus relieve unemployment to a great extent. The fertility of the farm at the same time w’ould be improved and a more continuous supply and better quality of cream would be ensured and consequently a better price, would be obtained. Stock also would be better fortified against disease. In fact, testing without adequate feeding was no indication of the value of a cow but rather of the season. Mr Ross emphasised that the tariff was prohibitive. Mr Coates promised to consider his representations and to consult with the departmental ofiicers.
