RAGLAN COUNTY.

MR C. JOHNSTONE. AGAIN ELECTED CHAIRMAN. ENTERS ON NINETEENTH YEAR. The re-election of Go*. Campbell Johnstone to the position of chairman, which was unanimously decided upon at yesterday’s meeting of the Raglan County Council, marks a commendable record as Cr. Johnstone has continuously occupied the position since I'JIO and is now entering on his nineteenth year of office. Cr. P. G. Taylor, in nominating Cr. Johnstone for the position, paid a tribute to the efficiency with which Cr. Johnstone had carried out the duties of his office during the nine years the mover had sat at the table. Cr. M. J. Corcoran seconded the motion and Cr. Johnstone -was reelected unanimously without opposition. The Chairman’s Remarks. The chairman in returning thanks for the continued confidence displayed by members said that, as in the past, he would endeavour to extend his best services to the council, the ratepayers and the staff. With the cooperation of his fellow members and the efficiency of the various officers, everything had worked smoothly and successfully and he could claim that the affairs of the county had been as efficiently carried out as the best and with a greater measure of success than a great number of local bodies. Raglan, he added, was in a very favourable position so far as the qualifications of its staff were concerned and that made matters easier for the chairman and the members. He also paid a tribute to those who had served under him -at the council table and was certain that there was no other body of men who, as a whole, worked in greater harmony. Where such existed it spelt more progress all round. Before concluding the chairman referred to Cr Taylor’s remarks as to his advocacy of the liberality of speech at the council table and added that he felt that by so doing the maximum of results were attained. The chairman resumed his seat amid a round of enthusiastic applause from his fellow councillors.
