WAIRONGOMAI QUARRY.

£IO,OOO .EXPENDED. DISCUSSION BY PIAKO COUNCIL. Following on a letter from the Thames High School to the Piako County Council almost demanding a decision from the council as to its intention in regard to the working of the Wairongomai quarry, the county engineer reported on the quarry. He advised the council not to touch it as there was a big vein of useless metal running through it. He was favourable to leasing the quarry plant ou a royalty basis of ltd per yard. The chairman remarked that the council was paying £lO per year for the lease of the quarry. Cr Kennedy staled that a vast amount of ratepayers’ money had been expended on the property. The council should not allow tho quarry to slip through their lingers. Plant to the value of £10,00(T had been provided and it was a wrong thing for the council to expend that sum without first securing a lease of the land, it was essential that the council should meet the Thames High School Board, which controlled the land, and place the position before it. There were thousands of yards of good metal in the quarry. It was resolved that the governors of tiie High School be asked to meet the council at Te Aroha and discuss the matter.
