The Te Aroha Borough Council advised that a sum of £337 had been received for the timber connected with the old traffic bridge. The chairman stated that fully 20,000 feet of the old bridge was missing, probably it had been carried away by Hood. The question arose as to whether the contractor was liable. A list of the limber in the old bridge was taken and any missing should be made good. The council agreed, on the chairman’s motion, to write the Borough Council enquiring where the timber had gone and who was responsible for the shortage of about 20,000 feet. In regard to the Piakoitl Valley crusher, Cr. McLean reported on the need for measuring up the metal available and paying contractors for the work done. This was necessary on account of the flooded state of the oreek from which the metal was taken. —The council agreed to release the contractors. Flooded. * Mr G. T. Newsome, Gordon, directed the council’s attention to the fact that there is a complete blockage of the watercourse under the bridge at the Gordon settlement. The water had overflowed the banks of the Waihou j River and fences had been destroyed. It was urgent that the council attend to the matter. The clerk replied that the matter was being attended to, a tender having been let to clear away the obstructions. A Motumaoho Request. The Motumaoho Drainage Board requested the council to construct a larger bridge across Swamp Hoad. It was pointed out that the board is already expending £SOOO in improving drainage conditions, if the request was acceded to, it would be of benefit to the county. On Gr. Starke’s motion it was agreed that the matter be left to the engineer and riding member to attend to. The Hungahunga Drainage Board asked the council to have spoil taken from Rasmussen's outlet spread over the road. —Left to the engineer. ' The board also asked permission to cut a drain through the road in order to allow drainage works to proceed in the Wairere Soldiers’ Settlement.— Granted. Morrlnsvtlle Golf Club. The Morrlnsville Golf Club thanked the council for agreeing to accept dedication of road near links, and asked for the supply of 30 yards of metal for same.—RSceived. Main Highways. The Main Highways Board, writing !n regard to the suggested declaration of the Waitoa No. 1 road as an additional highway, stated that it should first be dealt with by the District Council before being finally considered by the board.—Received. Petrol Tank Lorries. , The subject of heavy carting was discussed as the outcome of a letter received from a petrol delivery company. The engineer said it would be necessary to wait for a month until he

'bad reported on the subject. It would, he said, be manifestly unfair to allow one person to use the road for heavy cartage and prevent people, say, from carting heavy logs over the road.—lt was agreed that the engineer should report at next meeting. Wairere Settlement Road. The Minister of Public Works agreed to provide £350 towards tho Wairere Soldiers’ Settlement road. The chairman reported that the work could not proceed for a time owing to the road being a highway. Appointment of Chairman. Cr. Lowry referred to the excellent manner in which the council had treated him during the past year. •Mr Ray, clerk, assumed the chair and called for nominations for the position of chairman. Cr. Stark moved, and Cr. Magill seconded that Cr. Lowry be appointed. Cr. Magill contended that the ratepayers owe a debt of gratitude to Cr. Lowry who had performed a great service to the council. Cr. Lowry was unanimously elected. J n returning thanks, Cr. Lowry staled that he realised that a great burden had been placed on bis shoulders, but he felt it was his duty to carry on for another 12 months.
