The Wanganui Jockey Club's winter meeting, which was concluded on Saturday provided excellent racing. The honours in the Century Hurdles went to Red Fuchsia after a keen contest with Perle de Loon, In the Grandstand Steeplechase, the favourite Puwhero led practically all the way to record a comfortable victory. Paltonu won the Empire Handicap, with the Ngaruawahia candidate, Day Guard, in second place. There was a surprise in the chief sprint event when Moa Bird was first home from Arrow Lad and Silvermlne. The locally trained Peter Maxwell broke down after negotiating the last fence In the Grandstand Steepleohaso.
