LICENSING LEGISLATION.
ALLIANCE DEMANDS. PREMIER TO BE INTERVIEWED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The question of licensing legislation was reported on by the general secretary, Mr. Edmond, at yesterday's meeting of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Alliance. He also outlined the prospects of this question being dealt witli by Parliament during the coming session. He mentioned that as far as the position oould be judged by the Alliance there was no weakening in the intention of any of their friends in the Reform group to have a hill containing a two issue ballot paper and hare majority introduced. The Alliance conveyed to Mr Edmond, by resolution, ils appreciation of the invaluable services rendered by him to the cause of moral progress in connection with the passage of last year’s bill through the Lower House, its congratulations upon the moral victory achieved over the anti-social forces of the liquor traffic in successive votes of members of the House, and its continued confidence in him as a representative of the prohibition forces in all dealings with the Premier, Government, and members of Parliament. The Alliance reaffirmed the principle of the simple majority, renewed Its demand for the removal of Lhe State Control issue, and decided to use every endeavour to get the adoption of a two-issue ballot paper this session, with a provision that restoration shall mean reversion to the conditions obtaining immediately prior to the coming into favour of national prohibition. The Prime Minister is to be asked to receive a deputation l'or Lhe purpose of placing the various decisions before him.
