TREASURY RETURNS. FIRST SURPLUS FOR THREE YEARS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) RUGBY, March 2S. The financial year, which will end next Saturday, will almost certainly close with a surplus of revenue over expenditure in the' British Exchequer for the first time for three years. The Treasury returns for last week, with a revenue of £31,000,000 showed a surplus of nearly £9,000,000. The total revenue for the year now exceeds £818,000,000, while the expenditure to date os £600,000 less than at the corresponding date of last year. Last year's expenditure was higher and the revenue lower and there was a deficit of over £37,000,000. During the past year death duties have yielded £7,000,000 more than the estimate. The floating debt was reduced last week by over £1,000,000.
