TARNISHED GILT FRAMES.

MADE NEW AGAIN. Onion water is the oft-recommend-ed method of cleaning gilt frames, but while it removes the dirt, it does little to brighten the gilt. Try this method instead; it is certain to restore some of the brightness. After all the dust has been removed, using a brush for any deeply-carved parts, heat a little spirits of wine by placing the receptacle containing it in hot water. Dip a piece of soft, clean, and fluffless material in the warm spirit, and rub the frame. It will dry very quickly, after which rub the frame with a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine, one part of the former to two parts of the latter. Not only will the frame brighten under this treatment, but will keep its brightness for a considerable time.
