MANGAWARA DRAINAGE.

.*. RIVER BOARD MEETS. The Mangawara River Board met in Hamilton yesterday, Mr Reid presiding. New Classification List. The new classification list, which has been pending for many, months, was at last submitted to the Board by the classifiers, and a resolution was passed that it be adopted and signed by the chairman and duly advertised. Willows on Upper Mangawara. The committee reported that negotiations had been entered into with the settlers concerned, and as a result it appears that satisfactory arrangements will be made for the prevention of the overflow of the Mangawara River to the Paranui drain. A resolution was passed that 10 per cent additional be added to the current year's general rates which are unpaid after February 28. Engineer's Report. The engineer reported on the work for the past month as follows: Mr D. Walmsley: Mr Walmsley had satisfactorily completed his contract down to Littlewood's landing, and the work could be passed by the board subject to the maintenance period as provided for under the contract. Bridges, Upper Mangawara: Another 10 days' work would see the comple-. tion of these bridges. Messrs Dickie's and Laing's jobs were completed and Mr Cock's bridge is Under way. j. McConnell's claim: The engineer had interviewed Mr McGonnell on the ground re his claim. It appeared that Mr McGonnell had cleared and sown in grass an area of approximately seven acres. This area was low-lying and was badly flooded last winter owing to no river clearance having been done below Rutherford's bridge. He estimated the value of the grass destroyed at £29 17s. If the board would allow this compensation plus 30s for the cost of rc-opening the three drains affected by the board's works, Mr McGonnell would forego any claims whatever that he might have against the board.
