Mr J. T. Browne arrived in Hamilton from Sydney to-day. Dr. Budd, who has acted as honorary surgeon for the last two or three years, has been appointed surgeonsuperintendent of Opotiki Hospital. Mr and Mrs G. Filleul (Mastcrton), Mr and Mrs I. Wilson (Auckland), Mr and Mrs F. Peters (Otahuhu), and Mr H. Wilson (Matamata) are at the Commercial Hotel. • The Prime Minister, Right Hon. J. G. Coates, returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. He will leave again to-day, and -will spend the holidays at his homestead at Matakohe. Mr H. M. West, railway -traffic manager at Dunedin, is retiring from the service a little nefore 'the superannuation age to take the position of secretary to the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce. Grand- Central Hotel guests include Mr and Mrs J. R. Penn (Inglewood), Messrs A. E. Johnson (Wellington), Q. A. Hicks and' C. Seymour-Pralt (Auckland), and D. Whitehead (Waihi). Canon John HaseTden, of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland, celebrated the jubilee of his ordination last evening, and'was presented by his parishioners with a cheque and an illuminated address. Hamilton Hotel guests include Mr Walton Reid and Mrs Macarthy Reid (Wellington), Mr and Mrs C. Scott (Auckland), Mr and Mrs E. Farmer (New Plymouth), Major Westmacott (Wellington) and Mr R. McCallum (Wellington). Resignations from the staff of the Auckland Hospital have been received from Drs. Swift, Leonard, -Crow, Brownlee, Bowell and Warnock. The following have been appointed to the staff: Drr. Stuart Mackay, J. H. North, B, N. Henry, Jessie Alexander, L. A. Noakcs and E. P. Spencer.

To mark the retirement from "the road" of Mr L. W. McGlashah, members of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association presented him with a gramaphone and a silver plate, it was slated that Mr McGlashan had travelled for 49 years in the Auckland district.:
