WIDENING THE STRAND

REIVIOVJRSQ THE "BOTTLE-NECK." ' Further widening of the Strand has begun by the removal of the "bottleneck" caused by the projecting buildings between Urn Hotel Cecil and Adam Street. Workmen' are engaged in the demolition of those buildings, the lessees of which received removal notices some time ago from the London County Council. he destruction of the buildings will give a uniform breadth to the Strand from the Hotel Cecil to the Tivoli Theatre, and traffic will be facilitated at a place where it now suffers obstruction. There remains, however, the impediment to traffic which is caused toy the narrowness of the thoroughfare between the Tivoli and Charing Cross Station. If a new bridge is built at Charing Cross, and a new station is constructed there, Ihe plans for the improvement of the Strand will be affected.
