LAWN TENNIS.

AT HAiHU-TON EAST. ' , APATHY SHOWN. Although there is little doubt in jthe mind of many that a Tennis Club would be a big acquisition to Hamilton East, the apathy of tennis players in the locality was sadly apparent last night, when there was only a small muster to discuss the formation of a Hamilton East Club. It was decided that the meeting be formed into a committee to canvass intending members, and later a general meeting .would be called, when the advisability of forming the club will be discussed. SPRINGDALE CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Springdale Tennis Club the following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr F. W. Walters; president, Mr E. Johansen; vice-presidents, Messrs G. A. Fisk, C. R. Malcolm, J. H. Wills, W. S. Gooseman and A. Hunger (secretary) ; commiltee, Misses Fisk, Hunger, Halloa and Walters, and Messrs Bailey, D. Malcolm, Old, 11. Wagstaff and Heaton; hon. secretaries, Miss D. Malcolm and Mr G. Boylecaptain, Mr J.. Bailey; delegate Piako Tennis Association, Messrs Bailey and Boyle. H was decided lo hold the official opening on October 15.

A selection committee comprising the following was elected: Messrs Bailey and 11. Wagstaff and Misses Walters and Fisk.

THE RMTANGI CLUB. At the auuua! general meeting of the Matangi Tennis Club a fair attendance was recorded. Mr C. 11. Dunlord occupied the chair. The balance sheci, showing a credit balance of £6 19s JOd, was read and adopted and the annual report received.

The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr 11. E. Pacey; president, Mr C. 11. Dunford; vice-presidents, Messrs N. Ralcliffe, A. Pretty, W. Tomlinson, T. Shaw, E. J. Swann, 11. Marychureh; secretary, Miss S. Dunforcl; executive committee, Mesdamcs R. Ranstead, T. Ranslead. Misses Banks, E. Neilsen, A. Coventry, S. Dunford, Messrs C. Strong, A, Bryant, and J. Oliver.

The subscriptions remained the same as last year, viz., men 10s. ladies 7s Gd, children 2s.

Jt was decided to hold the official opening on Saturday, October 8, to be followed by a dance in the evening.
