BATTLE OF SLOGANS.

RAGES IN CHINA. REDS CALLED FOES OF LABOUR. In the war being waged upon the Communist elements in the Kuomintang Party by the more moderate Chinese Nationalists, slogans closely modelled after the “ups" and “downs” used so freely by Communists the world over are playing a big part, according to reports found in late copies of the Canton Gazette. While the spectacular breaking away from the extreme Nationalist group in Hankow by General Chians Kai-shek and Feng Yu-siang and their denunciation of the efforts of the few thousand Chinese Communists to turn the Nationalist movement into a class war, a la Moscow, recently occupied much space in ihc news, comparatively little was printed about what the moderate leaders controlling the Kuomintang in Canton, where the Nationalist movement began, were doing to curb the activities of their Russianinspired Communist agitators. It appears that, in addition to expelling many Communist leaders from the organisation and using armed force against some of the most recalcitrant, the Special Kuomintang Committee in the Province of Kwang-tung got up a summary of the party’s attitude towards the Communists in the shape of 22 slogans, which the newspapers of the province are obliged to print in every issue. The Anti-Communist Slogans. These slogans, as given in the Canton Gazette, are as follows:" — “1. Down with the Chinese ''Communist Parly, which is treacherous to cur late director. Dr. Sun Yat-sen! “2. Down with the Chinese Communist Party, which is against the San Min Chu' I (Three People’s Principles) ! “fi. Down with the Chinese Communist Party, which is destroying the people’s revolution! “4. Down with the Chinese Communist Party, which is undoing the work nf the Northern expedition! “5. Down with the Chinese Communist Party, which is utilising bandits and labour usurpers to oppress Die peasants and labourers! “6. Down with the Chinese Communist Party, which is insulting and disgracing our late'director, Dr. Sun ! “7. Down wilh the Chinese Communist Party, which is plotting the downfall and destruction of the Kuomintang! “8. To be against the Three People’s Principles is to he a counterrevolutionary. “9. To be against the Kuomintang is to be a counter-revolutionary. “10. All power and authority belongs to the Kuomintang. “11. All true and loyal comrades of the Kuomintang must unite and rise! “12. Down with all counter-revolu-tionaries i “13. Down with all opportunists! “14. Concentrate the powers of the Kuomintang. “15. Down with all forms of imperialism 1 “16. Down with the Fengtien clique of militarists! “17. Eradicate all corrupt officials, greedy gentry, and unscrupulous merchants. “18. Be on guard against those who lean towards the Right Wing. “19. To call a strike against the Kuomintang is counter-revolutionary. “20. Those who refuse to come under the direction and guidance of the Kuomintang are not revolutionaries. “21. The masses of the people must rise and clean up the counter-revolu-tionary Chinese Communist Party. “22. The masses of the people must rise and support Die Chinese Kuomintang.”
