CANADA’S SCHEME. ADOPTED IN BRITISH COLUMBIA. RESTRICTED TO SEPTUAGENARIANS (Australian <<c N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received Sept. 30, 2.30 p.m.) VANCOUVER, Sept. 29. Old age pensions are now effective in British Columbia, which is the first province to participate in the national plan. The Canadian Government pays half the benefit. Recipients must be 70 years of age, British subjects, 20 years’ resident in Canada, and five years resident in British Columbia. The maximum payable is £4B annually, being reducible accordingly where the recipient’s income is £125 and upwards. Two centenarians will benefit. The census shows there are 13,000 over 70 years of age in the province.
