HAMILTON MARKETS. PRODUCE. Business continued satisfactory over the week. Bran, pollard and barley meal were in good demand, as also was pig meal, which continues to sell freely. Top-dressing ' manures are still being inquired after. Wheat is much firmer in the South, and local prices have been increased. Poultry foods still continue in steady demand, while early seed potatoes are being sent out in small quantities. Quotations show no change at, fowl wheat 9s, maize 95,3 d; oats, Gartons ss, Duns 5s Gd; pollard, 11s; bran, 10s; barley meal, 18s; sucrosine, 13s 6d; chaff, local £B, Southern £9. No alteration is reported in manures for top-dressing. . Fruit. Apples ’continue in plentiful supply and are being sent out in'large quantities. Pears are fairly scarce, while lemons are on hand in only fair supply. Poorman oranges are fairly scarce, while the Island variety are stocked only in small quantities. The latest quotations show: Apples, Delicious 10s to 13s, Sturmers 8s to 10s, Dohertys 5s to Bs, Rome Beauties 8s to 10s, Munroes 8s to 10s, Ballarats, 8s to 10s; pears, Winter Nells 8s to 11s, Winter Coles 8s to 9s 6d; lemons, 7s to 10s; hothouse tomatoes, Is to Is Gd a lb; tree tomatoes, 4s to 5s 6d; Poorman oranges, 8s to 10s; Island oranges, 22s to 25s a case, and Sydney mandarins 18s to £1; passion fruit, 14s to 16s; bananas (repacks), 15s to £l. Vegetables. Potatoes continue about the same in supply and demand, while onions of the Australian variety are plentiful, with the local variety stocked only iri small quantities. Other vegetables continue in fair supply. Quotations remain at: Potatoes, £8 to £9 a ton; onions, Australian £8 to £ll a ton; cauliflower, 8s to 10s; cabbage, 5s to 7s Gd; swedes, 2s Gd to 4s Gd per sack; carrots, parsnips, beetroot and leeks, Is a dozen bundles; pumpkins, 5s to 9s Gd ,a sack. Poultry. Messrs J. R. Fow and Co. report a small entry of poultry during the week. Good prices were realised for young laying hens and heavy cockerels. Quotations are: Cockerels, heavy breeds 4s to 6s 3d, light breeds 3s 3d to 4s; heavy liens, 2s 9d to 3s Gd; Minorcas, 5s Gd to 6s 6d; Black Orpington pullets, 4s 9d to 6s; old ducks and drakes, 2s 9d to 3s; turkey gobblers, Ids. Fish. The wet weather has seriously affected the fish supply, all varieties being scarce. Flounder is still unprocurable. No alteration in prices has occurred. Prices are; Rock cod, Is; blue cod, Is 3d; terakihi, sd; moki,, 7d; hapuka, Is; butterflsh, sd; Maori chief, 9d; crayfish, Is. Dairy Produce. Eggs have dropped' In price, the wholesale price being now Is 10c! and the retail 2s 2d. Butter remains unaltered at is Sd, is 7d and is Gd. HAMILTON SALE The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:—At our Frankton sale yesterday we had a good yarding of choice steer, cow and heifer beef which sold at slightly easier values than those reached the previous week. There was a short market of fat sheep and prices were firm. A small entry of fat pigs was submitted, chiefly unfinished sorts which sold at late rates. Stores came forward In large numbers and sold at lower rates. Beef: Medium weight good quality prime fat steers, £ll ils to £l2 4s; lighter £lO 2s Gd ] to £lO 10s; young and light prime steers, £9 3s to £9 13s. Extra good quality prime heavy young cows and heifers, £9 to £9 18s; medium weight good -quality prime cows and heifers, £8 3s to £8 13s; plain heavy cows, £7 to £S. Medium weight cows £6 13s to £6 18s; lighter £6 to £G Bs. Choice veaiers, £3 5s to £4 14s; light and younger, good quality, £2 17s to £2 18. Sheep: Prime ewes and wethers mixed sold to 33s 3d; plain and light ewes, 21s; full to failing mouth ewes in ■ lamb, 21s sd; cull ewes in lamb 12s. ;Pigs: Light to medium baconers £3 to j £3 2s; fail* porkers, £2 16s to £2 18s; I medium, £2 11s to £2 15s; light £2 to |£2 ss; choppers, £2 19s to £3 17s; ! Sows in pig, £4 to £4 10s; large stores, i 31s to 355; good slips to small porkers, 25s to 28s; best weaners 18s to 225; small and young 7s to 12s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton report:—At the Hamilton sale on Tuesday last, we had an average yardj ing of beef of first class quality, which ! sold at last week’s rates. Few store i cattle were penned. Sheep were in ' shorter supply with no alteration in
value. We quote.—Prime fat heifers, £7 19s to £9 2s; lighter, £5 19s to £6 8s; fat cows, £G 2s Gd to £7 2s; plain fat cows, £4 14s to £5 11s; fleshy cows, £3 15s to £4 7s; heavy fat ewes £1 10s; fat and forward hoggets £1 0s 3d to £1 2s. A small yarding of fat pigs sold at late rates. The entry of store and weaner pigs was well above the average sales, and as a result prices were a little easier. We quote.—Heavy baconers, £3 2s to £3 11s; heavy porkers, £2 8s to £2 16s; porkers, £2 to £2 ss; stores, £1 L2s to £1 18s; slips, £1 3s to £1 9s; weaners, 14s to £1 2s; sows close to, profit, £5 to £G 10s. Messrs. Dalgefy and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual weekly stock sale at Frankton Saleyards on [Tuesday, as under:—There was a fairly large yarding of beef, including some nice lines of choice quality steers and young cows and heifers. The demand was quite as good as last week, and late values were well maintained, and in some cases exceeded. Prime fat steers made £lO 10s to £l2. 10s; light steers £8 to £9 ss; prime heavy heifers and young cows up to £9 ss; small ditto, £6 to £7 10s; inferior and heavy aged cows, i£s to £7; boners to £3 12s Gd. Only a few store cattle yarded, and prices nominal. There was a moderate yarding of fat sheep which sold under keen competition at slightly increased rates. Prime heavy fat ewes 27s to 29s 3d; fat wethers, 31s 3d; fat lambs 225; full-mouthed ewes in lamb to black-faced rams, 29s 3d; inferior ewes in lamb, 21s 9d. A small yarding of fat pigs improved in price. Extra large yarding of store pigs met with good competition. FROZEN MEAT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hamilton, have received the following cablegram from their London House, under date 29th ultimo:—• “New Zealand Frozen Meat. —Lamb: Sid per lb (average) ; fair demand. Mutton: Wether and maiden ewe, light 5 3-Sd per lb, heavy Aj; ewe, light 4 l-8d per lb, heavy 4d. Market weak.”
