ESCAPE FROM PRISON.
SCOTT GETS EXTRA YEAR.
AUCKLAND. Tuesday
The prisoner, Archibald Andrew Arthur Charles Scott, who eluded capture in country districts for over two years, came before Mr Justice Herdman in Hie Supremo Court yesterday for sentence on eight charges of theft.
When asked whether he had anything lo say,prisoner made a prompt response: "I was at large, from prison," he said. "1 did not steal with any intention of causing trouble to Ihc public. With the policemen on mo all the time I had to leave my wages and run off to make* a Jiving."' His Honour said the offence of escaping from prison was becoming too common. He sentenced prisoner lo one year's imprisonment with bard labour, to commence at the expiration of his present sentence.
