RADIO BROADCASTING.
CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Friday. Tho executive of the Wellington Amateur Radio Society and two of the directors of the Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand met yesterday in informal conference. It was urged on behalf of the listeners that the new high-powered Wellington station, should operate on a wave-length not longer than 300 metres, to minimise the amount of “blanketing” that would he inevitable by the use of such a powerful transmitter.
Mr Harris said the onus of fixing the wave-lengtli rested upon the officials of the Post and Telegraph Department. ' A proposal that a trained musician be appointed in each centre to select talent and manage the programmes was favourably received. Another matter discussed was the inadvisability of inserting “talk” items between the hours of 8 and 10 p.m.
The subject of fading and distortion by 3YA, Christchurch, and IYA, Auckland, was introduced.
Mr Harris said in reply that at both the stations the company’s engineers had failed lo detect sufficient Uuctuar lion in the power actually put into the transmitter tc account for any fading.
The society’s speakers urged the advisability of appointing an experienced broadcast technician lo supervise all stations.
The company has appointed Mr L. Slade, of Christchurch, as superintendent of stations. Mr Slade will coirdinato the operations of the four stations and bring them up lo their maximum efficiency.
