PALMERSTON N., Friday. The surprise of the day was "the defeat of Mrs Johnson (Christchurch) and Mr G. Caughley (Wellington) hv Mrs. Gambricl (Manawatu) and Colonel Hume (Nelson), 26 to 0. The latter are comparatively .-,ew players as far as tournaments are concerned, while Mr Caughley has held the open singles championship and his partner was three limes the ladies’ champion.
