MATAMATA TOWN BOARD.

ADJOURNED MEETING. The adjourned mecling was held on Tuesday, Mr j. Buchanan presided and there were also present Messrs J. Mclnlyrc, I. Black, A. Stewart, B. C. Taylor, J. Pohlcu and B. Blcnnerhasselt, town clerk. Mr J. H. Hawes was granted leave of absence. The clerk submitted estimates ofreccipts and expenditure for the three monlhs' ending, March 31, 1927. The figures read as follows:—Beceipts, £2073 17s, including current rales, £220.'! 19s and arrears £:.SIS Us; expenditure £2i>79 10s Id, including £314 10s, loan interest and hospital levy £7B lis /id. ]n reply lo the board's application [ to transfer £GOO from (he streets improvement loan account to the district fund account, the Minister of Finance wrote that the Local Bodies' Finance Act, 1921-22, restricts the borrowing powers or local bodies in anticipation of revenue and consecruently no approvals to transfers are being issued by the Governor-General in Council.— . Received.

In connection with the Town Hall loan of £SOOO, for which application had been made to the Public Trust Office, a reply was received regretting that the assistance required could not be granted.—Received. The town clerk, Hamilton, notified that, the apportionment of heavy traffic fees is still being held up by the failure of one or two of the local bodies con- j corned to supply necessary information. In particular, a certain local I body had appealed to Iho Magistrate ! in regard to one portion of the award, i and as a result had apparently made j no attempt to have the fees distribut- j ed.—Received. Dealing with the disposal of the I present pound site, the Commissioner I of Crown Lands wrote staling that the j site could not be offered for sale until i the reservation had been lifted next j session. Regarding the proposed new site, a report would bo- obtaned from the field officer.—Received. It was decided to dispose of two of the board's iiorses and also purchase a one-horse mower. The usual notification re the weekly half-holiday was received from the Department of Labour.—lt was resolved that the special meeting bo held ! in January fixing the half-holiday for j Saturday, the same to bo advertised. The chairman was given power to act in connection with the transfer of the recently-purchased sanitary site. It was agreed that the next meeting of the board be held on January 17, 1027. Accounts were passed for payment as follows:—General account, £3B 13s 2d; streets improvement loan account, £OO. Before concluding the chairman took the opportunity of wishing members of the board and press tiic compliments of the season.
