£SOOO MISSING.
TAKEN FROM TRAIN PARCEL OF NOTES. A sensation was caused in Townsville (Queensland) when it became known that £SOOO in notes, which were being transferred from Townsvillc Q.N. Bank to Cloncurry branch, had mysteriously disappeared. The money, which comprised SOO £5 notes, and 1000 £1 notes, was being transferred from the two banks by registered mail. it left Townsville on December 8, and when the train arrived at its destination, at I t p.m. on December 9, the valuable parcel was missing. The robbery was evidently the work of someone who had received inside information, because when such valuable parcels are in transit the greatest care is taken. Another feature which substantiates this is that (he bag containing the notes was the only one interfered with, and the parcels or notes were the only packages taken.
